What is the Flex Space?

The Digital Scholarship Lab (DSL) Flex Space is available for digital scholarship events, workshops, and classes. Engagements in the Flex Space are booked on a case-by-case basis.

It is available for drop-in use when not otherwise booked for an engagement. We prioritize bookings that are the product of collaboration with the DSL or Digital Humanities at MSU and engage with the people or affordances of the DSL.

The Flex Space is available for use during the DSL’s normal operating hours, which can be viewed here. Event requests during weekend hours or before DSL’s daily opening, when full-time staff are not available, will be considered on an individual basis.

The Flex Space may not be booked for meetings or events that are not relevant to digital scholarship, and the DSL does not host multi-day conference activities. The library reserves the right to refuse a reservation request and may limit reservations during busy times of the semester.

To submit a request, please fill out our request form.

The Flex Space has a projector that is enabled to work with:

  • The Windows computer at the presentation cart
  • HDMI via the presentation cart
  • Casting via AirMedia

The presentation cart computer requires campus login to initiate. Sound is handled via the presentation cart, and can allow for sound from either the presentation computer or HDMI, as well as podium and external microphones.

Room Setup

The Flex Space can be reconfigured in a variety of different ways to suit your activity. The default arrangement is eight round tables arranged throughout the space, which seats a maximum of 56. Lecture style seating or a mix of the two are also available upon advance request.

Food and Beverage

Food and beverages are allowed in the Flex Space. Organizers must clean up after themselves, including the removal of leftover food and waste. No alcohol is allowed in the Flex Space.
